On April , 2011, the community of Kibiswa, located near Banro's Namoya Project, and the Banro Foundation celebrated the opening of the new Kibiswa Primary School, serving 300 students. The Opening was celebrated by the South Kivu Minister of Education, Mr. Matwara, and tribal chief, Mr. Wakabango. Koos Nel, Banro's Vice President of Non-Technical Services, led the Banro delegation.

On November 29, 2010, the community of Luhwindja and the Banro Foundation celebrated the opening of the new Chirburhi Primary School. With 12 classrooms serving almost 600 students, a conference room and library, the Chiburhi primary school is the largest of the three schools built to date by the Banro Foundation.

In August 2009, Banro announced the purchase of a gold plant with capacity to process 100,000 oz of gold per year. The plant is being refurbished in western Australia and in May 2010 will be shipped in 90 forty-foot containers and 60 break bulk items to the port of Mombassa, Kenya. Additional containers and construction items are being prepared for shipment from South Africa. The plant will begin arriving in Twangiza in July 2010. Below are photographs of the plant in operation in Australia.
