In August 2009, Banro announced the purchase of a gold plant with capacity to process 100,000 oz of gold per year. The plant is being refurbished in western Australia and will be shipped to site in the new year and assembled. Here are photographs of the plant in operation.

On May 8, 2009, the Banro Foundation and the Luhwindja/Twangiza community celebrated the official handover of the new Naluhwindja Secondary School and a potable water system serving 18,000 people in four villages.
